Ok, I've never been a huge fan of volleyball, but I do manage to find my way to an OU game or two.

Looking at OU's roster, Erika Arriarian's sister is playing volleyball for the Sooners this year.

I'll be curious to see how OU does this year. They had a breakout year last year after more than a few years towards the bottom of the standings. Now the coaches have picked them to finish 9th this year. The good news for OU (and the rest of us picked towards the bottom) is that the coaches weren't very good at all at their preseason picks last year. They picked OU 10th (finished 2nd) and picked K.State 4th (finished 10th). I'm gonna guess the Sooners don't fall all the way back to the rear.

Texas and Nebraska are no doubt the class of the league, but the rest of the league could easily screw up the preaseason polls as much as last year. I think A&m (picked 4th) is a little overrated, and I optimistically think Baylor could be a big surprise team. We lost a couple of really good players, and are really young, but last years freshmen (16th rated class) came together well late last year, and we add another highly rated class this year. I'm looking for an upstart Bear team to be a force in the league.

Spooky.... where did you get the info on the ranking of the incoming class? I don't think I've ever seen volleyball recruiting classes ranked

The site that does the rankings is www.prepvolleyball.com . It's mostly a pysite, however, so all the info i have is from Baylor's site and another BU fan who i believe is a member of the site.

It looks like it does have a free message board, but I'd bet the rankings aren't included in their free content.

Thank you, spooky. I was a little surprised at OU being voted down so low as well, but wasn't sure who graduated from last year's team.

I'm really excited for another Husker volleyball season to start. Unfortunately, I have to miss three of the games due to conflicts. But, I'll still probably be able to listen to it on the radio. I think the Huskers have a lot of potential this year, as long as long rallies and digs from nowhere *coughwashingtoncough* don't unnerve us.

I'm someone else who is looking forward to volleyball season and just maybe beating :NU: again. ;) Probably the best volleyball match I've ever seen was last season's great come from behind victory over #1 Nebraska.

I agree that the Huskers and Longhorns will be the creme of the crop this season but you just don't hear much mentioned as to what Coach Christy Johnson is quietly doing over in Ames, raising the Cyclones from obscurity and developing them into a force to be reckoned with. The Cyclones got a taste of the NCAA tourney last season and are chomping at the bit to get back there. The AVCA is starting to notice though as they have the Cyclones ranked at #33 in the pre-season poll. They're picked to finish sixth in the conference but I think that just could turn out to be a little bit low.

Iowa State returns three starters and two part time starters from last year’s squad including AVCA Honorable Mention All-American out side hitter Erin Boeve. Boeve and setter Kaylee Manns both made the preseason all-Big 12 team.

I think that any volleyball team with Nebraska ties has a lot of potential, it seems. Although Nebraska is a football state, it's sure a volleyball state too!

(And hopefully soon it becomes a formidable basketball state...)

Nebraska is a volleyball state. Way back in the early 90's, I was there for a basketball game just as the final volleyball matches of the season were finishing. I thought I'd just walk up and buy a ticket. Forget that. The place was sold out. I understand it's a beautiful facility. Hopefully, CU will get something nice someday.
