Here's the current standings as of May 4th PM & the balance of the schedule for the Big XII. There are more games, but I eliminated the nonconference off the schedule.....since I'm more curious with the conference race and softball seems to continue to play non-conference games intermixed with conference games.

SUN, MAY 8

Wow look at those Aggies and Sooners go!
Out here...I've been getting too see quite a bit of Pac 10 softball..on Fox and actually Arizona has been on ESPN2 a couple of times. The UofA coach mentioned that he's having a hard time adjusting back from Olympic softball to college softball. A year away with the best in the world spoiled him.
Anyway...it's been nice to see some on tv instead of just during world series time.
How's the Big 12 compared to the rest of the conferences?

swok have I mentioned I miss Peaches :(
The Husker pitching is just too young and inconsistant for them to make any kind of a serious threat at the top conference teams, as are the bats. The hits have been coming a little bit more though the last couple of games, I hope that's a good sign. Right now they aren't even the top team in the state. :oo
bbgirl here are the last weeks rankings, the new ranking's come out tomorrow, so I guess you can be the judge on the conferences. I say the Pac-10 & Big 12 are about neck-and-neck at the top but right now I give the edge to the Pac-10.

wow, I would almost have to say the Pac-10 doesn't look as strong as in year's past.....I thought they all lived in the Top 10 :p
And, Michigan is number 1?....
row6........you guys sure are missing Peaches. After this season, OU loses pitcher Kami Keiter, 1st base, catcher...talk about some "stealth". I think Kami hit 4 over the wall homeruns between Saturday and Monday nite.
I haven't really followed the other games in the Big XII. And this weekend was really the first Big XII softball games I've been to this season  I know....behind, I am ;)
The OU/Texas A & M series was Saturday and Sunday and they split...ditto, OU/Baylor last night....split.
The Saturday game vs TAMU was probably one of the best softball games I've seen.......usually the college game is about pitching, pitching...
I think there were at least 7 homeruns (over the wall variety) hit on Saturday....I LOVE those kinds of games, FUN, FUN, FUN.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ashley DeBuhr, Nebraska, So., RHP, Beatrice, Neb. (Beatrice)She threw a no-hitter last week here in Lincoln against 10th placed Iowa State to get the award. She's still young but as the season progresses along you can tell she is starting to mature on the mound. She's a lot better than she was earlier in the year. Her record is now 15-13.

Tech has never given their smaller sports much support, especially the women's sports. I wonder if the Lady Raiders being so good and so popular has really handcuffed the other women's teams. Their new coach has been a proven winner, but has a shady recent past, and is still facing legal issues from her time at Washington. It'll be interesting to see if she succeeds.
I think OU and A&M have the best shots to go far. OU has the powerful offense and Keiter. If their other pitching keeps up, they could do well. A&M is great on both sides of the ball. I'd be a little worried relying on freshmen for so much of their pitching, but if they don't hit the wall, they'll be strong. they can play the speed game and the power game.
For Texas, Cat is Cat, but there are too many days where their offense is non-existent, and even the great one gives up runs now and then. I don't see them making it through to the WCWS.
This year's Baylor offense combined with last year's pitching would be awesome. But as it is, we're limping down the backstretch with our #1 and #2 starters dealing with chronic arm problems, and it's a crapshoot day to day to see which pitcher shows up. The pitching depth is much better, but you don't go too far without a consistent ace. It's a shame cause the offense is much better (.324 avg and 44HR compared to .268 and 20HR last year) but it's gonna take alot of other pitcher's stepping up to make it through to OKC. Hopefully we can make a run cause we lose 6 starters this year and next year there's gonna be some rebuilding.

OU's offense or pitching didn't do anything for them this weekend.
They lost 2 to Kansas and are surely out of the Big 12 title race now.
Kansas!
Yesterday went in extra innings and they lost by 1. Today they lost 4-1. Keiter gave up 3 earned runs in the 1st. OU only managed 4 hits today. Their offense isn't looking at potent as it was even a week ago.

Oklahoma State shutout the Huskers this afternoon in Lincoln on Senior Day no-less 2-0 to salvage a split in the two game series.
Congratulations to Oklahoma State's Marjorie Johnson who pitched her first no-hitter of her career striking out 11 and walking 6. NU was last no hit in May of 2000 against Arizona in the NCAA Regional Finals in a 5-0 loss.
The Cowgirls raise their record to 32-17 overall and 7-8 in the conference while the Huskers drop to 30-17 and 6-7 in the conference.

I didn't realize they had changed the format for the softball championship this year....though, I did notice that the World Series is no longer held over Memorial Day Weekend. According to the schedule.....the World Series could stretch out to an entire week.
the changes: a super-regional and the championship game has expanded to the best out of 3 games rather than a single game.

I believe I read that Texas A & M has *won* the Big XII and OU has locked up the #2 seed in the Big XII tourney.
Baylor still has the opportunity to lock up the #3 seed, and may already have it with a tie (though I haven't read that). Texas has completed their Big XII season and Baylor has one game left vs Texas A & M on Wednesday.
The conference tournament is a little different for softball in that the #1, #2, #7, #8, #9 and #10 teams play on Wednesday (opening day) and the #3, #4 #5, #6 teams don't play until Thursday. But the later mentioned seeds play two games on Thursday, whereas the #1 and #2 seed play only one game.

Texas has completed their Big XII season and Baylor has one game left vs Texas A & M on Wednesday.Yes, swok A&M has the regular season locked up they have a game and a half lead over 2nd place Oklahoma. Now Baylor is only sitting a half game behind the Sooners and a half game in front of Texas. So if they win they tie the Sooners for 2nd place which means they use a tie-breaker for the #2 seed. The Bears and Sooners split their two game series so it starts to get real confusing to find the tie breaker. Evidently the Sooners have it. Also the way I see it if the Bears lose to A&M they finish in 4th behind Texas.
Missouri and Nebraska play two this weekend as does Iowa St and Kansas. Right now Missouri is in 5th a half game ahead of the Huskers at 6th and KU is sitting a half game behind the Huskers at 7th. If Missouri and Nebraska split and KU sweeps ISU the Jayhawks claim 5th place. If Missouri sweeps they are the 5th place seed and if Nebraska sweeps they are the 5th place seed no matter what KU does. KU has to sweep ISU and hope for a NU/MU split in order for them to move up which very well could happen. A MU/NU split and a KU/ISU split each of these three teams stay put in the standings as they are now. No matter what Missouri does they can't over take Texas in 4th place. Comprende?

Thank you, row 6.....for posting that info.
I think Missouri pitcher, Kalka should have been MVP.....not to take a thing away from the strike out KAT.....but that young woman was pitching her third game in 8 hours time. She had a no-hitter going there for awhile...but, Missouri had to replace her. I really thought Missouri's field gave up a run they shouldn't have in the champ game....back when it was 0-0 and two runners scored on the same play.
