I've got to stop going to the officials forum - there was a thread on crazy team names - most of them high school..... The short versions is:
the Muckers - Of course, that makes the moms of the kids--- mother muckers!
Freeport and New Berlin Pretzels.
Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo - the "Kewpies", like in kewpie doll.
Teutopolis High School, home of the Wooden Shoes.
an NAIA college called the Evergrees State "Geoducks" - it's pronounced "gooey-ducks" and it's a really big clam...
Camas High School Papermakers.
YUMA High nickname is the Criminals.
Fluvanna County, VA. -t he Flying Flucos. "Fluco" is short for Fluvanna County. There have been numerous attempts to create a mascot that would go along with "Fluco"-- all to no avail. Currently, the logo is a flying "F." Although it used to be a flying foot, much like the symbol most of us see track teams use. As a result of the flying foot logo, the gym here is referred to as "The Shoebox."
a high school there in Polk County who called themselves the Dots.
Effingham HS in Illinois used to be the "Flaming Hearts".
Speedway (Inc) HS Sparkplugs (about a halfmile from the motor speedway)
Cobden, in Southern Illinois, known for it's fruit orchards - "Appleknockers".
Sauk Centre, MN "Mainstreeters" - (home of Sinclair Lewis who wrote "Main Street") affectionately known as the "Streeters"
Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The nickname is “The High School.” EHS, founded in 1839, was the first pure high in the state. BTW, if you want to send your child to EHS it will cost you just under $32,000 a year.
When Darryl "Mouse" Davis coached football at Portland State, the team was called the "Fighting Mice".
Wayne Zebras. The student section wears referee shirts at the last home game and delivers some interesting cheers and chants with every call during the game. Its was pretty funny to see the sea of black and white striped shirts. Go Zebras!
The Fisher Bunnies -- there's a mascot that will strike fear in the hearts of all challengers.
