Ok, this is no biggy to most of you but in the North Central Kansas League there is no greater rivalry than this. I just got back from the gym. This match had everything you could want. #1 vs. #2 in the state in class 4A. These teams are so good that they have both beaten many of the top teams in 5A and 6A, and yes they have been good for long enough that they both schedule matches with 5A & 6A teams and go to the best all class tourneys in the state.

With that as a background let me tell you about this dual. The entire Clay Center side of the gym was packed and half of the visiting Abilene side was full too. These matches are carried on the radio live and both schools send their cheer squads. Even the pep band was in attendance. Abilene won at all the lower class weights and built up a 24-0 lead. In the heavier weight classes Clay Center came back but not fast enough. They needed three straight pins just to TIE. AND THEY GOT EM. The Tigers won over the Abilene Cowboys on a tie breaker! Kind of the way #1 v #2 should go.

CC Tiger wrestler Danny Grater won his 100th straight match! When you consider the competion he has faced that is amazing! It also means by definition that he has won two straight State championships. He is now 25-0 this year. Danny has been recruited by many D1 colleges including Nebraska but has decided to wrestle at the University of Nebraska Kearney. The coach that signed him is, you guessed it, another Clay Center Tiger. Go CATS!

Clay Center is now in the driver's seat to win the NCKL league. Then it all starts over again for the wrestlers. #1, #2 and #3 in the state are all in this one north central regionals. If you win this regional the state meet is a breather.
