Are my eyes deceiving me?
I've read that list three times now and can't find which bowl the Huskers are playing in. That just doesn't seem right. Believe it or not I remember the last year they didn't make it to a bowl game. I was a heartbroken little kid listening to all the Husker fans wanting to fire the AD and head coach way back when. Sounds like history repeating itself.

Seems to me like the world is just out of sync right now. I mean who would have ever believed that the Nebraska volleyball team wouldn't make it to the final four, or that the Lady Huskers would have a more plausible chance of making it to post-season play than the football team had of making it to a bowl game.
This stark realization just sort of hit as I was watched Iowa State (go Clones) beat Miami of Ohio in a bowl game. Miami of Ohio in a bowl and the Huskers not?
I must say that I'm certainly glad Steve Pedersen had nothing to do with the hiring of a women's basketball coach. Thankfully, Coach Yori is a person of integrity. I'm not certain Mr. Pedersen would even recognize that let alone value it. Oh I know Mr. Pedersen's mission statement for the Department includes some witty references to integrity, but as the saying goes, "if you talk the talk, you'd better walk the walk." Or at least I think that's how the saying goes.
I understand that college sports, particularly football and men's basketball, are big business. But even successful big businesses can be run with integrity and character - does the name Warren Buffet ring any bells? Coach Osborne said it well when he said it's about more than winning. The bottom line in the football program at Nebraska now is winning -- plain and simple -- no matter what it takes.
So all you kids out there in Huskerland who have no option but playing 8 man football, you can give up on your dreams of being a Terry Connealy, Kyle Larson or Sean Applegate. You're not walking on and wearing Husker red because if you ain't ranked by Rivals, you ain't got a prayer.
Oh, by the way, Chancellor Perlman, I know you're a brillant man, and your theory about everything coming down to a matter of economics is a good one. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in all cases.
Bo Pelini had the potential to be the next Bob Devaney at Nebraska. That you, Mr. Pedersen and you, Mr. Perlman, couldn't see that says a lot about your lack of understanding of human potential. Without a firm grasp of that, you will never succeed no matter how wins you have, how many degrees you achieve or how much money you might make. You probably would have rejected Albert Einstein's application to teach physics at the U.
