Anyone know what is the latest with Osterman? Does she not get to participate this year because of the Olympic team? I noticed she wasn't on the updated 2003-2004 roster the other day.

Since she's in training for the Olympics....she wouldn't play for the Texas team this year. I think 3 or 4 years ago, the UCLA catcher did the same thing and came back for her final year of eligibility with UCLA the following year.

Does she lose a year of eligibility? Also, is she even attending UT right now?

Texas....I don't think she loses a year of eligibility.

I don't know how they handle softball players in the Olympics
in regards to class work.

I know when OU's Stacey Dales was in the Olympics playing for Canada, she was only required to take 6 or 8 hours rather than what's usually required for student athletes. Of course, Stacey's experience was in the summer and ran into September after classes had started....so, her's was a little bit different situation. It didn't interfere with her playing time.

I'm really excited for her accomplishments, however, I guess it is just strange for her to be gone and then come back. I'll just have to look at it like a red shirt(medical)... you never know!

She's in school right now, in fact she comes to almost every women's basketball game, sits right behind the Texas bench and usually comes to the Burnt Orange room after the game. She will take correspondence courses (may even be taking them now, but I do know that she was on campus during the fall semester - not sure if she was in classes though) in the spring while training for the olympics and then she will come back next year and play for Texas - she does not lose any college eligibility.
